Naya
George

                Jan 15/2009.

I have been working with George as his Instructor Therapist                        since November 2008. I have observed Naya in many different                      capacities at Kinder Kampus pre-school.

* Naya is able to play appropriately with toys
* Naya can and does follow classroom ruetines
* Naya sit and attends to story time and will call out answers if the teacher asks a question (comprehension seems age appropriate)
* Naya is completely self sufficient with self help skills such as: toileting, dressing, undressing, hand washing, eating and drinking. Naya will eat a variety of foods.
* Naya is verbal and is able to ask for help and to ask for things when needed. Naya sometimes requires verbal suggestions as to how to ask questions or to make comments.
* Naya is easily upset when playing with other children and requires intervention often to help her to solve problems. With the suggestions and modeling Naya will confidently try this with success!
* Naya likes to play with other children but does get upset when things don’t go her way. This is also normal for a child of this age!
* Naya is well liked by the children in her class
* Naya is excellent with George and can be used as a positive role model to teach George, when shown what to do
* Naya loves getting attention and sometimes will pretend to be hurt to get attention
* Naya can speak in full sentences and can answer questions if asked

This is a quick observation of Naya in the pre-school environment. She is a beautiful and loving little girl.

Today was AMAZING!!!

Little George was full of language yesterday and today. He is repeating all labels and is using some words spontaneously and appropriately!! He is also speaking clearly. He touched my nose today and said nose. He also touched Lucas’ nose today and said nose…which completely made Lucas go crazy!!! Way too cute. The other children are noticing the changes in George and that he is more engaged and are now more motivated to communicate and associate with him.
We transitioned George into pull-ups today which he seems to love. No more change table!!! So we are using backward chaining for his self help dressing skills and he is doing great!! What a little trooper.
George was good at drinking from his drink box again today. He is sipping and swallowing appropriately! I asked him while he was at the table at lunch if he wanted cheese (while showing him the container) and he shook his head and said NO!!! Wow…he is really catching on.
During circle time today George joined in with the circle of friends while holding hands. They then followed each other “round the mulberry bush”. George was watching and following the other children’s lead. He fit right in and was smiling the entire time. He also joined in with the yoga exercise. He did it!!!
During nap time yesterday and today George did very well. He is also FULL of language at this time. I love it. It is so quiet at this time that George feels confident to talk. I do respond to him at this time in a whisper voice and we have little conversations. He has amazing eye contact too and is FULLY engaged. I don’t want to discourage this new language and so I am very excited!!!

George is like a little sponge right now and is soaking up a ton of information  He is changing everyday!!! He has changed and learned so much in the last few months…it is very exciting to see. He is so smart!

  • Feb 27/2009. The first day of new Instructor Therapist

Today - George was alittle cranky this morning for about the first half hour and then got better.  I'm thinking it might of been because I heard he was up so early this morning.  Considering, overall we had a fairly good morning.
George was full of verbal imitation today, as well as some spontaneous. (SOO exciting) He did an excellent job playing animals with other kids (Paige & Mathew) and was actually sharing some of his animals with me.  Labeling animals and the sounds while playing was really strong this morning.
Today they had the monthly group circle with all the classes and George did awesome!  His compliance was great and he participated in some of the songs with actions.  Then after that circle we had our classes circle and George was a little star.  His compliance still maintained the same (over 30mins) and he was dancing to the music during freeze dance.
Trisha and I were also suprised that George went over to creative table and started colouring a picture.  Trisha is going to hang it up in the classroom! Get work George : )

Hello Valeska,

I just thought that I would give you a quick run down of this past week. This was a HUGE week for George and I wanted to share some of his progress with you.
This past week George has been using his language for appropriate communication! The amount of words that George uses regularly is increasing everyday.
When I entered into the classroom on Thursday and said “Hi George” he turned and looked at me and said “Hi”. He is recognizing what proper greetings look and sound like!
When I leave a session with George I will wave my hand and say “Bye Bye George…see you soon” he then responds with waving and says “Bye bye…see you soon”. AMAZING!!!
Last week during circle time Ms. Tricia asked each child to come to the wall and touch a color that she mentioned. George’s name was called at which time he got up (with a partial physical prompt) and walked over to her independently. She then said to George “show me the color blue”. He then went over to the wall and touched the color blue – 100% independently!!! ( these colors were NOT labeled or touched first). Everyone was very happy for George and even the other children clapped for him!
Many times last week George mentioned that he was happy. He really was and so I was thrilled to see his understanding with this!

He will say NO when asking a question so his discrimination is increasing.

He is starting to mand (request) for things using language. So if I am holding a sheep he will say sheep, or zebra he will say zebra. (these he will do without a prompt) Other items he will repeat the label to get the desired item. He is now starting to understand that language is a useful tool to get him what he wants or needs.
George is working so hard! He seems to enjoy learning new things and is eager to be engaged in new acquired skills. I am so proud of his progress!
We have seen an increase with some of his behaviour but also a huge increase in his knowledge!  He is more aware of his world now and is testing his limits with the people around him. Just like any other child would!!!

WAY TO GO GEORGE!!!
All the best,

Hi Valeska,

George had another GREAT day. Lot’s of spontaneous language and requesting (manding). His eye contact and engagement are FANTASTIC!! I worked on labeling clothes and body parts today. We also worked on animals and the sounds that they make. He is really catching on and will have this all figured out very soon!!! We did counting from 1-10 (mastered) the alphabet and sang songs with hand movements. George also initiated sitting on the toilet again and he went PEE…that is 3 days in a row!! He will have this mastered in no time!!! That is so great when a child shows interest and does it with their own intentions…as he will learn it much quicker than if we forced him to do it. Way to go George.

George is doing incredible things. Everyone around him is noticing the HUGE changes and communication skills, engagement and listening skills that he is acquiring.

We are on the right path with him!!! We are all learning so much!!

I also tried some Face Tapping (therapeutic modality HANDLE: Judith Bluestone) which he really seemed to love, and he completely relaxed while I was doing it! I hope you don’t mind…I thought that it might help him in many ways!

This activity may produce many benefits including: increased facial muscle tone for nonverbal expression, integration of facial and general tactile sensations, alleviations of headaches etc. It also supports speech production as well as hearing and vision and may give rise to a sense of calmness. It also helps to open the sinuses, increases circulation to gum tissue and supports energy channels. Go to www.handle.org

Have a great weekend,
Robbin
